Good things lie nearby..

The more globalized and connected our societies get, the more we appreciate products and designs which have a local touch. Our May issue therefore focuses on »regional design« and we present an identity for Norwegian food wholesaler and a fashion label that produces everything 100 % in Europe. The traditional football club Juventus Turin had the courage to get itself a new design and an Austrian design studio is convinced that living out in the sticks is an advantage of location. You can find these and many more regional projects in our current issue.

In our Showroom you will find an interview with Arnold Schwartzman, who designed for the Beatles and the Stones and worked for the Oscars – he even won one of the sought-after trophies himself! Mira Nameth shows that Illustrations can do so much more than just adorn books and magazines and Cult Partners turned branding spirits and wines into an art. Stephanie Specht from Belgium presents artful graphic design and Munich studio Moby Digg combine graphics and digital applications to create new communication tools.

Border No Border – the Cover of novum

Isolation is not an option. The designers from studio Moby Digg are convinced that we have to get connected, that borders should disappear and that we need to show more social responsibility. The design of this month's novum cover reflects this notion and symbolizes diversity and connectivity.

Social responsibility is also one of the guiding principles of PaperWise, the paper we used for the cover of novum 05.17. Peter van Rosmalen asked himself one day why paper is made of wood, whereas agricultural waste is burnt although it contains cellulose too. So the Dutch paper specialist founded a start-up and managed after years of research to produce a paper made of straw and sticks. The CO2-footprint of PaperWise is fantastic and small farmers in India now have a new source of income. A remarkable story of diligence and social engagement.
