Great designs from Australia and New Zealand

14.03.2015

In the past years so many great projects reached us from Australia and New Zealand that we couldn't help ourselves, but dedicate a whole issue to designers from down under. And to fit the occasion we produced two different covers – an anchor and a diver's bell. The illustrations came form New Zealand studio Inhouse Design, the fine paper was provided by Antalis (Rives Sensation Tactile Matt Nature).

Cast off to discover great designs from Australia and New Zealand.

Our different covers show details of the identity system (cf. page 33) for the rejuvenated Seafarers Building by Inhouse Design (Illustration: Trevor Powell). The building’s rich history as Auckland’s Sailors Home provided the basis of the nautical themed branding:
»An illustrator was commissioned to create a set of traditional, etching-like nautical details and we paired them alongside bold geometric patterns inspired by maritime signal flags. We wanted to make a distinctive contrast of two quite different aesthetics that were bound by a shared maritime theme. We continued this juxtaposition in the typography by using a variety of classic and newly-released typefaces. Mixing the past and present references the heritage of the building and its new contemporary use«.
